Vote Alert on Defense Approps. Amendments

NTU urges all Representatives to vote "YES" on the following amendments to H.R. 4365 - Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2024: #221, #235.

Amendment #221, offered by Rep. Jayapal (WA) would prohibit the use of funds to continue to administer the unfunded priorities list. NTU has supported the House and Senate versions of this amendment as well as standalone legislation. This amendment would eliminate a wasteful and unnecessary practice that undermines fiscal discipline and congressional oversight by allowing the Department to circumvent the budget process and lobby for additional funding for programs that are not justified or prioritized by its own strategic planning.

Amendment #235, offered by Rep. Roy (TX), would create an Office of Special Inspector General for Ukraine and use an offset to fund this priority. This amendment would increase oversight and accountability for the billions of dollars taxpayers have sent to the conflict in Ukraine.

Roll call votes on the above amendments will be included in NTU’s annual Rating of Congress and a “YES” vote will be considered the pro-taxpayer position.
