National Taxpayers Union (NTU) on Wednesday named U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) Taxpayer Defender of the Month for July, in recognition of his leadership on the recent rescissions package that clawed back $9 billion for taxpayers.
The award honors leaders who go above and beyond to protect taxpayers through transparency, fiscal discipline, and principled leadership.
“We appreciate Senator Schmitt’s work to usher through the first rescissions package since Bill Clinton was president,” National Taxpayers Union Executive Vice President Brandon Arnold said. “We need a lot more where that came from, and his leadership was an important part of successful passage.”
Brandon Arnold, National Taxpayers Union Executive Vice President, presented U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt with the Taxpayer Defender of the Month Challenge Coin.
National Taxpayers Union created the Taxpayer Defender of the Month award to highlight lawmakers who pair policy expertise with courage and common sense. Each month, NTU selects one leader who demonstrates a clear, consistent commitment to limiting taxes, spending, and regulation at every level of government.
“I’m proud to say we got the rescissions package done on behalf of the American people to restore trust their tax dollars aren’t going down the drain funding ideological programs at home and abroad,” Senator Schmitt said. “I’m honored to be named Taxpayer Defender of the Month by National Taxpayers Union for helping the Senate deliver on its promise to cut waste, fraud, and abuse within the federal government.”Anyone can nominate a Taxpayer Defender of the Month on the National Taxpayers Union website.
National Taxpayers Union is the Voice of America’s Taxpayers, advocating for limited taxes, spending, and regulation at the federal, state, and judicial levels across the country.
