Congress Should Commemorate Working Families Tax Cuts

June 30, 2026

National Taxpayers Union, the nation’s oldest taxpayer advocacy organization, urges all members to vote “YES” on H. Res. 1383, a resolution entitled “Commemorating the one-year anniversary of the enactment of the Working Families Tax Cuts.” Introduced by Representative Beth Van Duyne (R-TX), this measure recognizes the historic law that allows taxpayers to keep more of their hard-earned money. Lower taxes and pro-growth policies are creating jobs and strengthening the financial security of American families.

The Working Families Tax Cuts prevented a tax increase for nearly 80% of taxpayers by locking in the lower tax rates and higher standard deduction from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 that were due to expire at the end of 2025. The legislation also expanded the Child Tax Credit and created new deductions targeted at working families, further reducing taxes for millions of households. These changes delivered an average tax cut of more than $2,300 per taxpayer this year.

In addition to helping families, this legislation established a clear and predictable tax framework for American businesses. Codifying full expensing into permanent law is proving to be a boon for investment and job creation. Also referred to as “100% bonus depreciation,” this allows companies to deduct the full cost of new investments like equipment from their taxes immediately, rather than spreading those deductions over several years. Along with provisions reinstating immediate research and development (R&D) expensing, the legislation is playing a vital role in keeping America the top destination for inbound foreign direct investment (FDI).

Importantly, this legislation also made meaningful, cost-saving reforms to Medicaid, SNAP, and other programs plagued by waste, fraud, and abuse. Scandals involving the widespread misuse of taxpayer dollars regularly make headlines across the country, and the legislation’s practical reforms to the federal bureaucracy are helping restore public trust in government.

Roll call votes will be included in NTU’s annual rating of Congress and “YES” votes will be considered the pro-taxpayer position.
