Everyone is hearing about Wisconsin’s victories against bloated budgets and wasteful spending, but there were promising developments in Arizona, Nebraska, and Kansas, today. The states are the testing lab of democracy – and the serious approach we see in these states will hopefully set an example for Washington:
The Arizona House has passed legislation that would cap future spending.
The Nebraska Unicameral is on the verge of ending a tax on the sale of phones. NTU has been hard at work to support stopping this unnecessary tax which has helped make Nebraska the “nation’s highest wireless tax state”.
The Kansas House endorsed legislation which will reform public employee pensions, placing all new employees in a defined contribution plan. NTU State Affairs Manager John Stephenson submitted testimony in support of the measure.
On the federal side, good news comes from the U.S. Senate where The Hill reports Harry Reid’s measly $4.7 billion in budget cuts failed to attract as much support as the GOP measure which would cut $57 billion.
