Today the President held a press conference where he demanded Republicans budge on "revenues" (which apparently are tax increases that do not occur before election day 2012) or their will be no debt ceiling deal - and thus that disaster would be all the Republicans fault, although our own Andrew Moylan has explained why that is not necessarily the case.
For his part, House Speaker John Boehner reiterated his stance that tax increases are not on the table and called again for a Balanced Budget Amendment.
In light of the future outlook for spending obligations, which will continue to rise dramatically into the future, versus revenues, which will gradually return to their post WW2 average of 18.5% of GDP, it sure seems like Boehner is the one focusing on the actually problem.
