Senator Lankford Named Taxpayer Defender of the Month by National Taxpayers Union

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- National Taxpayers Union (NTU) on Tuesday named U.S. Senator James Lankford (R-OK) Taxpayer Defender of the Month for September, in recognition of his leadership on the Preventing Government Shutdowns Act as well as his work introducing several pro-taxpayer amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The award honors leaders who go above and beyond to protect taxpayers through transparency, fiscal discipline, and principled leadership.

“Senator Lankford has been a consistent and principled advocate for taxpayers,” NTU Executive Vice President Brandon Arnold said. “From his efforts to prevent costly government shutdowns to his taxpayer-focused amendments to the defense bill, he has shown both courage and common sense in advancing policies that protect the American people’s hard-earned dollars.”

National Taxpayers Union created the Taxpayer Defender of the Month award to highlight lawmakers who pair policy expertise with courage and common sense. Each month, NTU selects one leader who demonstrates a clear, consistent commitment to limiting taxes, spending, and regulation at every level of government.

“Oklahomans expect Washington to be responsible with their money and to avoid the dysfunction of repeated shutdowns,” Senator Lankford said. “That’s why I’ve pushed the Preventing Government Shutdowns Act and common-sense reforms to protect taxpayers. I’m honored to receive this recognition from National Taxpayers Union for delivering solutions that respect the people who pay the bills.”

Previous award winners include House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington and Senator Eric Schmitt.
