NTU Supports Republican Study Committee’s 2019 Budget: “A Framework for Unified Conservatism”

National Taxpayers Union (NTU) is pleased to support the Republican Study Committee’s (RSC) “A Framework for Unified Conservatism” for Fiscal Year 2019. In keeping with a long tradition of fiscally responsible, reform-minded budget proposals, this year’s budget once again sets a benchmark for conservative public policies and fiscal sustainability. Within a framework that balances inside the 10-year budget window, the budget makes smart choices to accommodate key priorities such as making many Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) provisions permanent, eliminating gimmicks like the Overseas Contingency Operations account, repealing Obamacare, and addressing our imminent entitlement spending crisis. In addition, the budget also lays out urgently needed, commonsense budget process reforms that we urge the Joint Select Committee to consider.

As our mounting spending and debt approach critical thresholds, the RSC is to be commended for continuing to make what are increasingly tough - though necessary - choices on behalf of taxpayers and the economy. The House and Senate Budget Committees would be wise to follow this lead.
