NTU Applauds Scalise, Eshoo for Introducing Modern Television Act

On July 25, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA) introduced the Modern Television Act of 2019. National Taxpayers Union released the following statement:

"National Taxpayers Union (NTU) applauds House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA) for introducing the Modern Television Act, and demonstrating their commitment to reforming and updating outdated telecommunications laws for a modern television marketplace. Repealing these archaic laws and regulations is the key to unlocking a free market that innovates, promotes competition, lowers costs for consumers, and reduces disruptive blackouts. While certain provisions of the bill are cause for some concern, such as requiring binding arbitration for private entities, on the whole, the Modern Television Act is a strong start to ensuring Congress and the FCC take 21st-century approaches to a 21st-century market. We hope, as the bill advances through the legislative process, it will move even further in a pro-consumer, pro-taxpayer direction."
