A new website will spotlight stories of small businesses hurt by tariffs with news coverage from across the country aggregated at a single destination, National Taxpayers Union (NTU) announced Thursday.
The Tariffs Report, an echo of the Drudge Report, collects real stories of real pain born by small businesses in a constantly changing environment with tariffs imposed, paused, or postponed regularly.
“Trade policies should uplift American small businesses and the workers and communities they support,” said Bryan Riley, Director of NTU’s Free Trade Initiative. “While the Trump administration’s actions aim to create a fairer trade system, the impacts of tariffs on everyday Americans are clear: prices are rising, jobs are becoming less available, and small businesses may have to close their doors. We hope that the small business stories featured on The Tariffs Report encourage the administration to reject broad-based tariff increases and focus on other policies to achieve its worthy goal of trade that supports American prosperity.”
The U.S. International Trade Commission found that earlier U.S. tariffs on China were borne ‘almost entirely’ by Americans. In a recent survey of U.S. small businesses, over 80% said they’d have to raise prices due to tariffs. Almost a third said they would have to lay off workers.
NTU has advocated for the Trump administration to put America First on trade by negotiating zero tariffs, zero subsidies, and zero trade barriers on behalf of U.S. consumers, taxpayers, and businesses.
