National Taxpayers Union Cheers Key Senate Vote Advancing Trade Promotion Authority

(Alexandria, VA) – Today, National Taxpayers Union (NTU) lauds the Senate’s successful cloture vote advancing Trade Promotion Authority (TPA). This vote was the biggest remaining hurdle standing in the way of enacting TPA.

“Thanks to the Senate’s leadership in moving forward with a stand-alone version of TPA, taxpayers can see the finish line on trade,” said NTU Executive Vice President Brandon Arnold. “One more Senate vote will send TPA to President Obama, who should not hesitate to sign it into law.”

NTU activists have logged over 12,500 calls and emails to Congress in support of TPA, while the organization’s “Fables & Facts: Trade Promotion Authority” has helped to counteract the vast amount of misinformation circulating against trade legislation.

Arnold concluded, “Free trade is not only a core conservative principle, but a core American principle that promotes peace and prosperity – those in Congress who have supported TPA deserve credit and have earned our thanks.

National Taxpayers Union, “The Voice of America’s Taxpayers”, is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working for lower taxes, smaller government, and economic freedom at all levels. More information on NTU’s work is available at www.ntu.org.
