Longtime Taxpayer Group Leader John Berthoud to be Eulogized at Memorial Ceremony, Celebratory Reception

(Alexandria, VA) -- The untimely death of John Berthoud, President of the National Taxpayers Union and National Taxpayers Union Foundation, last Thursday has elicited shock, heartfelt condolences, and fond remembrances from hundreds of friends, opinion leaders, Members of Congress, and others in the public policy community. This Wednesday a special memorial service and evening reception will be held to celebrate the life and mourn the death of this remarkable man.

Dr. John E. Berthoud, May 23, 1962 - September 27, 2007
Ph.D. in Political Economy, Yale University
M.A. in International Affairs, Columbia University
President, National Taxpayers Union and Foundation
Adjunct Professor, George Washington University
Previously, Vice President, Alexis deTocqueville Institution
Previously, Director for Fiscal Policy, American Legislative Exchange Council

The 362,000 member NTU is a nonprofit, nonpartisan citizen group working for lower taxes, smaller government, and accountability from public officials at all levels. Dr. Berthoud began his service as President of NTU in 1997.

Dr. Berthoud is survived by his mother Joan, his brother William, his brother Charles and their families.

WHAT:Memorial service for Dr. Berthoud's friends in the Washington, DC area (family funeral service to be held in Connecticut). An evening reception will follow in Washington, DC.
WHEN:Service: Wednesday, October 3, 3:00 pm; Reception: 5:30-7:30pm.
WHERE:Service: Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5533 North 16th Street, Arlington, VA, 22205.
Reception: America Restaurant, 3rd floor, Union Station, Washington, DC.
