The Internal Revenue Service squandered $143 billion over the last decade on improper Earned Income Tax Credits. This money could have been used for priorities such as filling the federal funding gaps that plague America’s inner-city schools.
Federal investigators revealed that in 2015 alone, the IRS wasted $15.6 billion on erroneous and fraudulent EITC payments.
