Citizen Group Nominates Tax-Fighters for Ronald Reagan Award, Cosponsors Conservative Political Action Conference

(Alexandria, VA) -- In recognition of those who have sacrificed to make a real difference on behalf of the late Ronald Wilson Reagan's limited-government values, the non-partisan National Taxpayers Union (NTU) has nominated Karl Peterjohn and Ginny Walden-Ford for the Ronald Reagan Award. The Award is the highlight of the 32nd annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), an event that the 350,000-member citizen group and its research affiliate NTU Foundation will also be cosponsoring.

"Karl Peterjohn and Ginny Walden-Ford are among the foot soldiers who have fought day in and day out to reduce the unwieldy burden of government on hard-working taxpayers," said NTU President John Berthoud. "NTU is proud to recommend them for honors at CPAC, and stand together with them to fight for the principles of limited government that our nation was founded on."

Peterjohn is Executive Director for Kansas Taxpayers Network, a citizen group that has been instrumental in defeating tax hikes and promoting tax limits in the Sunflower State for years. Walden-Ford, a single parent of three children who faced the fallout from imploding public schools in the District of Columbia, has served as a tireless advocate of school choice for DC. Her efforts were crucial in securing a program that allows 2,000 District students to receive a voucher of up to $7,500, so they may attend a quality school of their own and their parents' choosing.

Besides the Reagan Award, the much-anticipated Conservative Political Action Conference will feature speeches and panels with major personalities on the conservative scene, live broadcasts of radio talk shows, and exhibits from dozens of organizations. In addition to cosponsoring the event, NTU will join in the activities by staffing a presentation table with information and research materials. As an added highlight, NTU President John Berthoud -- who holds a Ph.D. in Political Economy from Yale University -- will share his expertise on fiscal issues with conference goers as one of the scheduled speakers.

"For the thousands of CPAC attendees who are concerned about the level of federal spending and the threat to recently-enacted tax relief initiatives, NTU expects to offer a bold fiscal alternative to Washington's wasteful ways," Berthoud concluded. "National Taxpayers Union is thrilled to be a CPAC cosponsor and join in this great gathering of citizens, one which will guide American toward a more prosperous future."

NTU is a non-profit, non-partisan citizen group founded in 1969 to work for lower taxes, smaller government, and more accountability from elected officials at all levels. Note: CPAC 2005 will convene February 17 -- 19 in Washington, DC. To register for the event visit www.cpac.org, or call (703) 836-8602. For more information on NTU visit: www.ntu.org.
