Beware the Nov. 4 Tax Hike Bonanza in Texas

I’m afraid your fine editorial “The Y’all Street Tax Plan” (Oct. 27) only scratches the surface of what’s at stake on Election Day in the Lone Star State. My organization found more than 250 troubling local ballot measures.

Two dozen would increase property, lodging or sales taxes, which would collectively raise $281 million in local tax revenue annually. This includes a $16 million lodging tax in Bexar County to finance an arena for the Spurs and a $100 million tax hike in Austin. Another 56 measures have no fiscal estimate, so taxpayers won’t know their cost before it’s time to vote.
