Amendments Before House Could Reduce Legislative Branch Waste

As the House considers H.R. 5325, the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2017, NTU urges all Representatives to vote “YES” on the following amendments that would reduce wasteful spending:

  • Blackburn (R-TN) Amendment: With the exception of the Capitol Police, Architect of the Capitol-Capitol Police Buildings, Grounds and Security, and the Office of Sergeant at Arms accounts, this amendment would reduce spending across the board by one percent.

  • Sanford (R-SC) Amendment: This amendment would save taxpayers $430,000 by reducing funds for the John C. Stennis Center for Public Service Training and Development. Particularly when Congress should be striving to reduce spending, hundreds of thousands of dollars for a congressional vanity project is an inappropriate use of taxpayer funds.

Roll call votes on the above amendments to H.R. 5325 will be included in our annual Rating of Congress and a “YES” vote will be considered the pro-taxpayer position.
