"YES" on legislation (H.R. 6079) to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)

NTU urges all Representatives to vote “YES” on legislation (H.R. 6079) to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), thereby preventing nearly $500 billion in tax hikes and $1.1 trillion in unaffordable spending. The Supreme Court’s recent decision upholding PPACA and placing the unconstitutional “individual mandate” within Congress’s taxing powers makes supporting H.R. 6079 all the more vital.

Unless Congress acts, the federal government will have been given a whole new license to wield harsh powers over all Americans’ pocketbooks for any of a number of reasons, limited only to the imagination of bureaucrats. The result will be another blow to our already moribund economy, not to mention our individual liberties.

NTU has consistently opposed the health care law from its inception to final passage because of its 20 new or higher taxes,  individual mandate provisions, and mounds of restrictive regulations. Far from implementing real reforms, PPACA has done little to lower costs or improve the quality of health care. Instead, both insurance premiums and the estimated costs of the legislation itself have steadily risen, increasing burdens on health insurance consumers and cash-strapped employers alike.

Now is the time for the legislative branch to do its job in preventing an unaffordable and unworkable law from moving forward. Congress must act to repeal PPACA immediately and press the “reset” button on debates over reforming our health system. We also need to work to reestablish and strengthen constitutional boundaries on federal taxing, spending, and borrowing powers.

All roll call votes on H.R. 6079 will be heavily weighted in our annual Rating of Congress.
