Representatives vote "No" on H.R. 3288, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2009

NTU urges all Representatives to vote “NO” on H.R. 3288, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2009. This “multibus” package includes six of the seven remaining appropriations bills: CJS, Financial Services, Labor-HHS, MilCon-Veterans, State-Foreign Ops, and THUD. H.R. 3288 contains a total of nearly $450 billion – 13 percent above the 2009 enacted level.

At a time when our nation is faced with a sagging economy, the last thing we need is unbridled spending that will only worsen the federal budget deficit, which is already expected to approach $1.2 trillion next year. Equally disturbing are the 5,224 earmarks worth $3.8 billion. Doling out billions in pork and larding up agency budgets are never wise policies, but in the current economic environment they are fiscally suicidal.

A “NO” vote on H.R. 3288, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, will be heavily weighted as a pro-taxpayer vote in our annual Rating of Congress.
