NTU urges all Representatives to vote “YES” on H.R. 2, the American Energy Solutions for Lower Costs and More American Jobs Act. This legislation is a common sense package of much-needed energy reform policies that will lower costs for consumers and increase jobs.
With vast resources of natural gas, coal, and oil, the United States has the potential to fuel economic recovery by sparking the energy industry. However, outdated and archaic permitting processes and costly regulations too often stand in the way of growth. Implementing the reforms in H.R. 2 would be an economic boon for both the energy industry and consumers, who all benefit from increased production.
According to a report out this week, the U.S. oil boom is saving consumers world-wide almost $5 billion a day. Our increased production has helped to lower and stabilize oil prices despite ongoing unrest in the Middle East that in the past rocked markets around the globe – that’s just one example of the broad impact of energy policies. Here at home, enacting policies that streamline permitting for infrastructure and export, reining in onerous Environmental Protection Agency rules, and upholding a true “all of the above” energy strategy would spur domestic production and be an across-the-board win. Consumers benefit not simply from lower prices at the pump or on their heating and cooling bills; keeping energy costs low and avoiding volatility also helps reduce food costs (an increasingly large part of family budgets) and other products that rely on long-distance transport. And everyone benefits when more Americans are back at work, not only at in the ballooning energy sector, but across the economy.
Roll call votes on H.R. 2 will be included in NTU’s annual Rating of Congress and a “YES” vote will be considered the pro-taxpayer position.
