Vote “YES” on H.R. 4468, the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act

The National Taxpayers Union (NTU) urges all Representatives to vote “YES” on H.R. 4468, the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act, introduced by Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI).

The CARS Act would prohibit the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from finalizing, implementing, or enforcing a proposed rule that would undermine the ability of Americans to freely choose what kind of vehicles to purchase. EPA projects that the proposed rule implementing new light duty emissions regulations would lead Electric Vehicles (EVs) to account for 67 percent of new car sales by 2032.

The CARS Act would ensure that individual consumers – not the federal government – have the ability to select the vehicle of their choice.  The flexibility provided by the CARS Act is especially important as high vehicle prices and high interest rates are making it harder for average Americans to afford a new car.

This vote will be included in NTU’s annual Rating of Congress, and a “YES” vote will be considered the pro-taxpayer position.
