Trump administration wisely backtracked on shipping taxes. Let’s make that pause permanent

The Trump administration made the right call last year when it paused proposed new taxes on shippers docking foreign-built vessels at US ports.

This year, it should end the threat of new shipping taxes permanently.

The shipping tax threat was initiated during the Biden administration when five labour unions asked the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) to impose a “fee” on every Chinese-built ship docking at US ports.
