Ohio Energy Bill Is A Loss for Taxpayers and A Bailout For Big Business

After the Ohio Senate passed the misleadingly-named “Ohio Clean Air Program,” National Taxpayers Union Vice President for State Affairs Leah Vukmir condemned the bill as a energy bailout for the benefit of big business that will cost Ohio taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars without doing anything to address energy costs for Ohioans.

“It is extremely disappointing that Ohio policymakers caved to special interests today at the sake of Ohio’s competitive energy market and its taxpayers,” Vukmir said. “Supporting the state’s ineffective nuclear sector at the expense of more innovative, cost-competitive and affordable natural-gas power is not in the long-term best interest of the state. Subsidies are not a practical fix and, regardless of promises from politicians, the burden of this  bailout will fall on the back of the taxpayer."
