New Hampshire Shows the Nation That Taxpayer Protection Still Matters

As states seek ways to expand government revenue, Governor Kelly Ayotte’s State of the State address offered something rare in American politics: a clear, unapologetic defense of taxpayers. 

Her message represents a welcome reminder that economic growth and fiscal responsibility don’t compete. They are mutually reinforcing priorities.

Governor Ayotte deserves particular praise for confronting one of the most persistent policy temptations facing her state: creating an income or sales tax. Doing so would undermine the New Hampshire Advantage—even if the intent is reducing the state’s property taxes.
