Arizona should keep its promises before raising the sales tax

This Tuesday, May 18th, Arizonans will vote on Proposition 100, an 18 percent hike in the states income tax rate. NTU, represented by yours truly, will be in Arizona for Tuesday's special election.

Since arriving in Arizona, I've been bombarded by ads saying that education will face "devastating cuts" unless this sales tax hike is approved. The ads say that the money raised by the tax hike will go to education.

Really? I did some checking with my friends at the Goldwater Institute and they provided this short video, which shows that the promises to devote sales tax proceeds to education are historically sketchy.

Also, here is a video showing Arizonans are taking to the streets (literally) to oppose this tax increase and highlighting the tax-education disconnect.
