iMac, iPod, iPad, iTax?

First, there was the iMac. Now, it looks like there will be an “iTax.” Last night, Governor Pat Quinn of Illinois and several legislators met to discuss the state’s multi-billion dollar budget deficit. We have since learned that the governor and the legislators discussed several tax hikes, including a tax on Internet downloads such as videos and songs from iTunes. Illinois budget officials predict it will raise about $10 million. People are already referring to it as the “iTax.”

This is getting ridiculous. Illinois officials need to get serious about the deficit and look to spending and tax reform rather than penalizing Illinois consumers who want to watch their favorite episode of "The Office" or listen to Lady Gaga's latest release. NTU will continue to monitor this development closely. Let’s hope Illinois voters speak up and tell officials to drop the iTax.
