National Taxpayers Union held a briefing hosting Dr. Arthur Laffer at Podesta Group. Dr. Laffer is a widely known economist who had influence on the tax cutting movement during the 1980’s and advised President Reagan as a member of Reagan’s Economic Policy Advisory Board. Dr. Laffer was accompanied by former Florida House Speaker, Tom Feeney. Mr. Feeney currently is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Associated Industries of Florida. NTU’s own Pete Sepp, mediated the discussion on opportunities for pro-growth agenda and corporate tax reform in 2016.
NTU advocates on behalf of taxpayers to reform the outdated and overly complex code, “The system is collapsing under the weight of its own complexity” said Sepp. Tax reform is a great reality and the timing seems right. The conversation shifted to the upcoming election and the possibilities of reform. “Paul Ryan was born to reform taxes” said Feeney, “If anyone was meant to do it, it was him.” Sepp, Laffer, and Feeney all agreed that tax reform is no easy undertaking albeit possible in the coming years. Dr. Laffer vocalized his confidence in Speaker Ryan saying tax reform is “virtually guaranteed in the next few years.” NTU is grateful to Podesta Group for hosting a successful event with famed Dr. Laffer and Mr. Feeney.
