NTU urges all Representatives to vote“YES” on H.R. 658, the FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2011, introducedby Representative John Mica (R-FL). This bill makes major strides toward fiscalresponsibility as well as sound aviation policy.
H.R.658 reforms and streamlines our air transportation system, allowing for vitalinnovations without relying on tax hikes or raising passenger facility charges.
Amongthe many beneficial provisions in H.R. 658, this bill would:
- Fund the FAA at2008 levels for four years;
- Expand the ContractTower program to enable airports to utilize less costly and more efficientprivate control towers;
- Phase out theEssential Air Service program for all states but Alaska and Hawaii; and
- Repeal a NationalMediation Board rule that overturned 75 years worth of precedent by making iteasier for labor organizations to unionize a workplace.
Roll call votes on H.R.658 will be significantly weighted in our annual Rating of Congress anda “YES” vote will be considered the pro-taxpayer position.
