NTU Statement on the House Passing the Senate Budget

Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed a budget with reconciliation instructions to reform America’s tax code. Following the breaking news, NTU President Pete Sepp stated, “With the Senate’s action last week and today’s vote in the House, Congress has cleared a major hurdle in delivering a major promise to the American people. After marking the 31st anniversary earlier this week of the last comprehensive tax reform effort, it’s fitting for Congress to now solidify its commitment to an overhaul of the tax laws that will benefit everyone. It is long past time to bring our archaic tax code into the 21st century.

Comprehensive tax relief, reform, and simplification comprise the single most effective mechanism available to policymakers now for job growth, wage growth, and overall GDP growth. The reality is if Washington stands still on tax reform, America will only fall further behind the rest of the world.

On behalf of taxpayers across the country, NTU commends Congressional leaders for their unceasing, and exhaustive efforts to ensure Congress passes a budget and moves forward on tax reform. Let’s start legislating!”
