New FHFA Director Has Mission Ahead to Safeguard Taxpayers

Shortly after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) official Sandra Thompson to Director of the agency, National Taxpayers Union (NTU) President Pete Sepp offered the following statement.

"In being chosen to lead FHFA, Director Thompson will bring a great deal of experience to a post that matters now for taxpayers more than ever before. The Federal Housing Finance Agency has the vital role of serving the taxpayers' front line of defense in the secondary mortgage market. NTU is pleased to have worked with Sandra Thompson in several capacities at FHFA, and we look forward to partnering with her to ensure that FHFA fulfills its unique mandate -- one that is pivotal in maintaining fiscal stability during these challenging times for the housing sector and the entire economy. In fact, by safeguarding this fiscal stability, Director Thompson and her team can maintain the foundation upon which any new housing policies must rest.

By exercising focused leadership on behalf of FHFA's statutory mission to ensure the housing GSEs operate 'in a safe and sound manner, Director Thompson will have the gratitude of hard-working taxpayers and homeowners across this nation. To this critical end, NTU pledges the full measure of our assistance."
