YES on S. 953, the “Offshore Production and Safety Act.”

NTU urges all Senators to vote “YES” on S.953, the “Offshore Production and Safety Act.” Sponsored by Sen. McConnell (R-KY),this bill would help put an end to calculated government inaction andbureaucratic obstructionism in order to create jobs, lower energy costs, andboost our economy.

Althoughit has been more than six months since the Obama Administration’s moratorium onoffshore drilling ended, bureaucratic obstinacy has left the approval processfor leases at a standstill. This implicit “permitorium” has forced rigs toleave our waters, energy exploration to slow, and investment to flow to othercountries.

Bysetting reasonable time limits on the review and action on drilling permits, S.953 will loosen the government’s stranglehold on offshore oil and natural gasdeposits, allowing us to work toward safe, responsible, and efficient domesticenergy production. Furthermore, this legislation will reverse the ObamaAdministration’s unjust delay of lease sales of the coast of Virginia and theGulf of Mexico which have needlessly prevented energy exploration, dampened jobcreation, and slowed economic growth. While more action is needed, thislegislation is a step in the right direction towards increased exploration forAmerican energy.

Roll call votes on S. 953 will be significantlyweighted in our annual Rating of Congress and a “YES” vote will beconsidered the pro-taxpayer position.
