Vote NO on the Continuing Resolution (CR) to Make Additional Appropriations

Based on available information, NTU musturge Representatives to vote “NO” on the continuing resolution (CR) to makeadditional appropriations through the end of FY 2011.

Normallya CR that simply extends funding at current levels without increasing them iscommendable. Unfortunately, in addition to misplaced funding priorities, thislegislation authorizes appropriations at amounts (FY 2010) that are already fartoo high. While there are some worthy provisions, such as the earmarkmoratorium and salary freeze for federal workers, it is impossible to toutfiscal responsibility and simultaneously support an appropriations bill thatcarries such an exorbitant price tag.

Furthermore, lame duck appropriations games rarely result in good policy. Americans havecontinually expressed their displeasure with such deal-making at the polls. IfCongress is serious about curbing spending, eliminating record deficits andbeginning to pay down the national debt, funding levels should be reduced to FY2008 levels, thereby saving taxpayers approximately $100 billion. Reworking theCR toward this end is both feasible and desirable.

All roll call votesrelating to the FY 2011 CR will be significantly weighted in our annualRating of Congress.
