State of the Union: Preview

The State of the Union is still 14 minutes away, but here is a preview per an advance copy given to the Wall Street Journal.

According to the WSJ: "In his State of the Union address, Obama defends the health-care bill against Republican repeal efforts and calls for lower corporate tax rates and fewer loopholes, according to full text of the address released by the White House."

"Over the years, a parade of lobbyists has rigged the tax code to benefit particular companies and industries... I’m asking Democrats and Republicans to simplify the system. Get rid of the loopholes. Level the playing field. And use the savings to lower the corporate tax rate for the first time in 25 years – without adding to our deficit," he says.

Obama will call for near universal wireless Internet service, and more road, bridges and rail spending.

"Within 25 years, our goal is to give 80% of Americans access to high-speed rail, which could allow you go places in half the time it takes to travel by car," he says.
