Vote Alert
YES on HR 658, the FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2011
March 31, 2011
NTU urges all Representatives to vote
“YES” on H.R. 658, the FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2011, introduced
by Representative John Mica (R-FL). This bill makes major strides toward fiscal
responsibility as well as sound aviation policy.
H.R.
658 reforms and streamlines our air transportation system, allowing for vital
innovations without relying on tax hikes or raising passenger facility charges.
Among
the many beneficial provisions in H.R. 658, this bill would:
- Fund the FAA at
2008 levels for four years;
- Expand the Contract
Tower program to enable airports to utilize less costly and more efficient
private control towers;
- Phase out the
Essential Air Service program for all states but Alaska and Hawaii; and
- Repeal a National
Mediation Board rule that overturned 75 years worth of precedent by making it
easier for labor organizations to unionize a workplace.
Roll call votes on H.R.
658 will be significantly weighted in our annual Rating of Congress and
a “YES” vote will be considered the pro-taxpayer position.
