YES to defund the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
H. Con. Res. 35
April 14, 2011
NTU urges all Representatives to vote “YES” on H. Con. Res. 35, to defund the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), introduced by Representative Rodney Alexander.
From inception to final passage, NTU has vehemently opposed the health care law because of its enormous tax hikes, inclusion of the “individual mandate,” and additional layers of costly big-government bureaucracy. This onerous law does nothing to achieve its stated goal of bending the cost curve, instead pushing health care costs and the deficit to unprecedented and unsustainable levels.
PPACA is not real health care reform. It is a political ploy, chock full of gimmicks and tricks, in an attempt to hide the enormous expansion of the federal government that would be pushed onto America’s already overburdened taxpayers. Congress must start over and enact reforms that put health care choices in the hands of patients and that focus on lowering costs through the introduction of market forces.
To create the space for a fiscally responsible alternative Congress must take the first step and eliminate funding for PPACA. Roll call votes on H. Con. Res. 35 will be significantly weighted in our annual Rating of Congress and a “YES” vote will be considered the pro-taxpayer position.
