taxes   NTU On Taxes

Since its creation in 1969, NTU has stood strong as the voice for America's overburdened taxpayer.  Our U.S. Tax Code is a complicated mess, far too complex for average taxpayers to understand. We need sweeping tax reform designed to make this system fairer, less burdensome, and more comprehensible for the folks who actually pay those taxes.

agricultureAgriculture
NTU has long called for significant economic liberalization of the agriculture industry – it is not the government’s role to tinker with prices and distribute giveaways.  NTU does not support policies where one group of taxpayers is forced to subsidize another.

budget and spendingBudget & Spending
Government spending at all levels is out of control.  Washington, especially, is spending money it does not have, to the detriment of our country and its citizens. We believe government should spend within its means and cut back when times get tough.

defense and homeland security Defense, Homeland Security, & Foreign Affairs
Although NTU understands the value in a strong and capable national defense, we do not support duplicative and wasteful spending in any area of government. The recent trend of including "earmarks" in spending bills is an affront to our troops.

economy and commerce Economy & Commerce
NTU believes that free market principles are the best way to foster growth in any economy. Your hard-earned money should not be used by the federal government to bail out private industries like banks and auto companies.  NTU was one of the first voices to condemn them.

NTU has long held that education policy should be conducted at state and local levels where those who know the needs of the community can provide financial solutions and input. The federal government's role in the education of our children should be minimized.

energy and the economyEnergy & the Environment
NTU contends that the answer to our country's energy problems will not be found in a national energy tax, whether through "cap-and-trade" or some other plan. Businesses and individuals alike should be taxed less so that they have the opportunity to create free-market solutions to address our nation's energy needs.

NTU has tirelessly advocated for consumer freedom of choice in how they communicate with others.  Elements include demanding the FCC to take a "hands-off" approach toward matters such as video services franchising and so-called "Net Neutrality," as well as demanding that telecom tax burdens be lowered to more rational levels.

Transportation and InfrastructureTransportation & Infrastructure
For too long federal transportation policy has focused on Congressionally-directed funding and overlooked the involvement of locally-driven free-market alternatives.  America must end the diversion of gasoline taxes to inefficient mass transit programs, eliminate of subsidies that promote ethanol, and promote projects that allow new roads to be built privately and operated by tolls.

The free market is the best way to make health insurance less expensive for all American families. That means regulatory barriers to new health care providers, implementing tort reform, creating the ability for consumers to buy health insurance across state lines, and providing equal tax treatment for people who purchase health insurance policies outside of employers.
