About NTU & NTUF

Founded in 1969, the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) is the nation's most effective taxpayers' lobbying organization, supported by a grassroots membership of over 362,000 individuals. NTU has organized the most extensive network of taxpayers in the country, with members in all 50 states. As a non profit, non partisan organization, NTU lobbies Congress and State Legislatures, educates the public, politicians, and the media on important taxpayer issues, and provides assistance to members who want to become effective citizen activists at the local level.

Established in 1977, the National Taxpayers Union Foundation (NTUF) is a public research and education organization dedicated to collecting data, analyzing information, and informing the public on matters of fiscal and economic policy.

Placement Opportunities

Communications (1 Position)

Assist the Communications department in responding to media inquiries and research requests; conducting media outreach; identifying placement opportunities in print, broadcast, and online media; tracking media coverage; writing for NTU and NTUF newsletters; and editing numerous written materials such as press releases, letters to the editor, and policy papers. Candidates will possess a basic knowledge of and interest in the media, strong communication and writing skills, and a creative attitude.

Development (1 Position)

Assist Development department in expanding and maintaining NTU's and NTUF's fundraising programs; conducting research on potential donors; sustaining relationships with current supporters through correspondence; and maintaining NTU and NTUF's extensive database of over 362,000 members. Candidates will possess strong research and communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to free-market principles.

Government Affairs (1-2 Positions)

Assist NTU's Government Affairs department in lobbying on federal and state issues; conducting policy research and analysis; assisting in grassroots taxpayer education efforts; formulating reports and opinion editorials; and attending or participating in policy seminars or briefings. Interns also will have the opportunity to work on NTUF projects. Candidates will possess an interest in public policy (specifically budget, tax, and regulatory issues) and strong research, communication, and writing skills.

Policy & Research (4 Positions)

Assist Research department by tracking and reporting on Congressional spending patterns through NTUF's BillTally and VoteTally reports. Interns also will be encouraged to pursue suitable research and writing topics that will lead to publishable policy papers, issue briefs, or op-eds. Candidates will possess basic quantitative skills, attention to detail, an interest in public policy issues (specifically budget, tax, and regulatory issues) and strong research, communication, and writing skills.

Internship Application Process

Internships are granted on a rolling basis and may take place during any time of the year. Participants may receive academic credit or a stipend. Internship applications are available upon request or online at www.ntu.org.
