2012 General Election Ballot Guide: Montana

Statewide Measures

  • ( + ) In response to the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act, Montana taxpayers will vote on LR-122, the Montana Health Care Measure. This would allow Montana residents to decide if they want health insurance or not and prohibit the state or federal government from imposing penalties for not complying with the mandate.
  • ( - ) In response to the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court ruling, voters will weigh in on I-166 which would call upon Montana's congressional dele- gation to offer an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would declare that corporations do not have constitutional rights and would seek to  limit corporate political contributions. Citizen activists are concerned that weakening the ability of businesses to participate in the political process could deprive the fiscal policy debate of important views and thereby give an unfair advantage to those with agendas to expand government.
