Tariffs.org Allows You to Track Import Tax Costs by State
The tariffs instituted over the past decade are costing American families money by inflating the prices they pay for just about everything. But, while they can have an enormous impact on states’ economies, tariffs can seem like an afterthought in state policy discussions. After all, where can you even find good, reliable data on how much tariffs are costing each state?
To answer that question, NTU Foundation recently launched tariffs.org, a website that allows people to view the impact of tariffs on their states. Not only does the website show the total cost of tariffs to each state, breaking down which goods have been hit hardest by tariffs, it also shows the per-household impact on families in each state.
For example, Michiganders paid billions of dollars in tariffs for cars and auto parts, while Kansans were hit by tariffs on agricultural and construction equipment. People in California and Texas have paid the most in executive tariffs since January 2025. In many states, the biggest cost results from tariffs on raw materials and imported parts used to produce goods in the United States.
Each state page features a graph with the total cost of tariffs imposed by executive order, as well as tariffs imposed by statute. All state pages offer a downloadable report with the latest numbers, top import categories, and per-household equivalent. The site is a resource for taxpayers, business owners, policy researchers, and journalists.
This is the only statewide comparison of its kind, and it will be updated every quarter to allow people to see the up-to-date impact of tariffs. With the U.S.-Canada trade conflict in the news, Americans are trying to figure out how these taxes actually hit their wallets. Tariffs.org breaks down policy jargon and shows exactly how current trade policies affect everyday monthly expenses.
Users can sign up to receive the latest numbers by state in their inbox as soon as they’re available. Data is provided by Trade Partnership Worldwide, an economic analysis and research firm. The website has been covered by Axios, Investopedia, and numerous regional media outlets.
