NTUF Congratulates CBO Director On Reappointment

National Taxpayers Union Foundation (NTUF) congratulates Director Phillip Swagel for his appointment to a second term leading the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Under his stewardship, CBO has built on the work initiated by previous directors to increase transparency about the methods and processes that the agency uses to assess the cost of legislation and other proposals.

NTUF Vice President of Research Demian Brady issued the following statement:

“Director Swagel did an admirable job in his first term, but much work remains to bring greater transparency and accountability to the legislative process.

NTUF also commends House Budget Committee Chair Jodey Arrington (R-TX), Ranking Member Brendan Boyle (D-PA), Senate Budget Chair Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), and Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-IA) for their bipartisan support for effective leadership at CBO.

NTUF has long held that CBO is one of the most important agencies in all of Washington. That’s why we created the Taxpayers Budget Office to serve as a CBO watchdog and ensure CBO operates for taxpayer interests. We hope to continue working with congressional leadership to improve CBO with additional scorekeeping and budget reforms so that Members of Congress and taxpayers have access to reliable fiscal data on how our money is being spent.”
