Maryland is one of 10 states that faced a budget deficit this year. Instead of trying to dig themselves out of this hole, state legislators are digging it deeper by trying to ban an expanding industry.
Maryland is awash with permanent and temporary bans on data center construction. During construction, data centers can create upwards of 1,000 temporary jobs and $200 million in economic activity. While operating, data centers can create 50-200 permanent jobs and bring in tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue.
Taxpayers cannot afford to let short-sighted legislators smother this industry in its infancy.
