YES”on Sen. Mike Lee‘s (R-UT) motion to recommit on the H.R. 2112, the Agriculture, CJS, and Transportation Appropriations Bill.

NTU urges all Senators to vote “YES” on Sen. MikeLee’s (R-UT) motion to recommit on the H.R. 2112, the Agriculture, CJS, andTransportation Appropriations Bill. This motion contains instructions for theCommittee on Appropriations to maintain spending at 2011 levels. Based oncalculations from Appropriations Committee reports, this could result insavings of roughly $9.3 billion.

H.R.2112 contains a total of $254 billion in discretionary spending, nearly 4percent higher than last year’s level. While this year-to-year increase issmaller than in recent appropriations cycles, it is hardly the kind of boldfiscal responsibility that taxpayers seek and our budget outlook demands.

WhileNTU would like to see even more aggressive action to place the federalgovernment on a clearer path toward balanced budgets, Sen. Lee’s motion torecommit is a positive step that recognizes the need for a more sustainablefiscal direction.

Roll call votes on Sen. Lee’s motion to recommit will be significantly weighted in our annual Rating of Congress and a “YES” vote will be considered the pro-taxpayer position.
