YES on H.R. 910, the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011

NTU urges all Representatives to vote“YES” on H.R. 910, the “Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011.” Introduced byRepresentative Upton (R-MI), this bill would prevent the EnvironmentalProtection Agency (EPA) from implementing an economically damaging regime ofgreenhouse gas regulations under the auspices of the Clean Air Act.

Followingthe defeat of “cap-and-trade” in the Senate, the EPA circumvented thelegislative process and began to implement heavy-handed regulations on climatechange. By its own estimates, the EPA’s self-proclaimed authority to regulategreenhouse gases will cost industrial facilities $46,000 and commercial ormulti-family residencies $5,000 on average for permits. These overly-strictemissions requirements and permitting procedures would lead to enormousregulatory costs for business owners, hit consumers with a de facto tax hike, and would pose a substantial threat to job growth.

Toprevent this blatant power grab, H.R. 910 applies the simple solution ofreestablishing Congress’ jurisdiction over climate policies, thereby vestingpower in the taxpayers through their elected representative rather than theunaccountable bureaucrats at the EPA.

Roll call votes on H.R.910 will be heavily weighted in our annual Rating of Congress and a“YES” vote will be considered the pro-taxpayer position.
