“YES”on H.R. 2560, the “Cut, Cap, and Balance Act.”

NTU urges all Representatives to vote“YES” on H.R. 2560, the “Cut, Cap, and Balance Act.” Sponsored by Reps.Chaffetz (R-UT), Mulvaney (R-SC) and Ribble (WI) this bill is the comprehensivesolution necessary to place federal spending on a more sustainable course andpave the way for economic growth.

Inrecent years, Washington, under the direction of Presidents and Congressionalleaders from both parties, has continually failed to make needed adjustments toits spending habits. Such intransigence has led to an explosion in federal spendingthat has pushed America to the brink of a painful crisis. The debt ceilingpresents a monumental opportunity for our representatives to demonstrate theleadership required to not only avert a near-term breakdown, but tosuccessfully navigate the long-term fiscal challenges.

TheCut, Cap, and Balance Act fully embraces the occasion, in turn answering tomillions of taxpayers who rightly understand that overspending, notundertaxing, is the source of present and future problems with the federalledger. H.R. 2560 combines $111 billion in cuts to non-security discretionaryspending in the FY2012 budget, statutory caps that gradually reduce expendituresnearer to historic norms, and a $2.4 trillion increase in the debt ceiling thatwould only go into effect if Congress passes and submits a Balanced BudgetAmendment to the states for ratification.

Thesestructural changes provide the necessary framework to put America back on soundfiscal footing and create the conditions for prosperity. Roll call votes on the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act will be among the mostheavily weighted of the year in our annual Rating of Congress.
