YES on H.R. 1230, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act

NTU urges all Representatives to vote“YES” on H.R. 1230, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act.Introduced by Rep. Hastings (R-WA) this bill will reverse the calculatedgovernment inaction (and in many cases obstruction) of oil and natural gaslease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Virginia.

Sincethe passage of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, offshore exploration, leasing and development have been determined through five-year plans. Thecurrent plan was created in 2007 and included lease sales off the coast ofVirginia and Gulf of Mexico. In its determination to hamper the production ofoil and gas while subsidizing its favored energy technologies, the ObamaAdministration has unjustly delayed or canceled two of the three offshore leasesales in these areas. As a result, the President’s budget predicts billions ofdollars in lost lease sale revenue which could be used to address our budgetdeficit. Furthermore, the Administration’s obstructionism will needlessly delayAmerican energy production, which will dampen job creation and economic growthfor years to come.

H.R.1230 will put a stop to the bureaucratic foot-dragging that is holding back ourability to utilize America’s vast stores of domestic energy and driving upprices for all energy consumers. Rollcall votes on H.R. 1230 will be significantly weighted in our annualRating of Congress and a “YES” vote will be considered the pro-taxpayerposition.
