Vote YES on the House resolution to Cut Salaries and Expenses

NTU urges all Representatives to vote “YES” on the House resolution to cut salaries and expenses of Member, committee, and leadership offices in 2011 and 2012.

More specifically, today’s resolution would reduce Member Representational Allowances as well as the salaries and expenses of committee and leadership offices by 5 percent. Furthermore, it would decrease the Appropriations Committee budget by 9 percent.

The spending recklessness of recent years has eroded freedom and inflicted considerable anguish on taxpayers and our nation’s economy. Citizens voiced their frustration at the polls last November, and they demand concrete legislative action, not empty political promises. Congress’s own expenditures represent an excellent place to start.

Trimming these budgets would serve as a modest but very important first step in providing pro-taxpayer leadership for the 112th Congress. We hope you will cast a “YES” vote as a sign of your commitment to help restore fiscal responsibility in Washington.

Roll callvotes on this resolution will be significantly weighted in our annualRating of Congress.
