Vote YES on S. 372, the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act

NTU reminds all Members of the House to vote “Yes” on S. 372, the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act, which passed the Senate by unanimous consent and is on the Suspension Calendar today. Additional work on whistleblower matters remains ahead in 2011, but the House must not delay in enacting S. 372.

S.372 is crucial to the future viability of efforts to improve fiscal managementin the federal government. If the next Congress is to have credibility withtaxpayers who are expecting more aggressive efforts to control the cost ofgovernment, S. 372 is a key reform that must be in place on day one of the 2011session, not at some future point in time. This bill is the product of manyhearings and refinements, not just in the 111th Congress, but forthe better part of a decade. Drawing out the process for more months, or evenyears, to get “the perfect bill” isneither desirable nor acceptable to overburdened taxpayers.

As we noted in an alert last week, S. 372 would safeguard tax dollars without worsening flawed federal workplace rules that contribute to an entrenched bureaucracy. Accordingly, we reiterate that roll call votes on S. 372 will be significantly weighted in our annual Rating of Congress. Even at this late point in the session, taxpayers are watching.
