Vote Alert: S. 493 the SBIR/STTR Reauthorization Act of 2011

In the debate on S. 493, the “SBIR/STTR Reauthorization Act of 2011,” NTU urges all Senators to vote as follows on these amendments:

  • Vote“YES” on Amendment 178. Introduced by Senator Vitter (R-LA), thisamendment would force the government to sell off a portion of the $83 billionin federal property that the Office of Management and Budget estimates is beingunderutilized or completely unused.
  • Vote“YES” to Amendment 161. Sponsored by Senator Johanns (R-NE), thisamendment would to repeal the expansion of onerous 1099 reporting rulescontained in the 2010 health care overhaul and the “Small Business Jobs Act”which constitute a burdensome mandate on businesses.
  • Vote“YES” to Amendment 186. Introduced by Senator Cornyn (R-TX), thisamendment would create a bipartisan agency whose sole task is to reviewgovernment agencies and programs and propose eliminating those found to beredundant or wasteful.
  • Vote“YES” to Amendment 199. Introduced by Senator Paul (R-KY), thisamendment would achieve $200 billion in savings in 2011 by reducing mostdiscretionary spending to 2008 levels and trimming military spending by 5percent without impacting war funding or veterans’ benefits.
  • Vote“YES” to Amendment 197. Sponsored by Senator Hutchison (R-TX), thisamendment would prevent states from having to undergo the costly process ofimplementing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act until the SupremeCourt has ruled on its constitutionality.
  • Vote“YES” to Amendment 184. Sponsored by Senator Coburn (R-OK), thisamendment would require each federal agency to identify, describe, and listeach program they administer in order to improve oversight and eliminate failedor duplicative programs.

Roll call votes on the aforementioned amendments will be significantly weighted in our annual Rating of Congress.
