NTU Statement on Postal Service Reform Act Hearing

"The United States Postal Service is in desperate need of reform. Its current fiscal trajectory is unsustainable for American taxpayers. In 2016, the Postal Service lost $5.3 billion -- marking the tenth consecutive year of losses. At the same time, it has well over $100 billion in unfunded liabilities and has been unable to make statutorily required payments for these liabilities. While National Taxpayers Union applauds the Oversight and Government Reform Committee for recognizing many of the problems plaguing the Postal Service, the proposed solutions fall well short of what is required given the sea of red ink they find themselves in," said NTU's Counsel and Government Affairs Manager Clark Packard.
