NTU Signs Open Letter to Congress: Support Sugar Program Reforms

The National Taxpayers Union has joined a coalition of public interest groups to support reforms introduced in the House and Senate that would modernize and reform sugar programs in the United States. The current status quo for sugar policy in the United States is an outdated regime of price controls and supply constraints that costs small businesses and taxpayers billions of dollars every year.

The Sugar Modernization Act of 2017 will bring much-needed market-based reforms that will bring American sugar policy into the 21st century. The legislation will benefit everyone, from consumers to farmers to small businesses to the economy at large, and Members of Congress will do well to take up this issue.
