“Representative Sensenbrenner (R-WI) has once again demonstrated tremendous leadership by introducing the ‘No Regulation Without Representation Act of 2017,’” stated Brandon Arnold, National Taxpayers Union (NTU) Executive Vice President. “This is a much-needed bill that would finally codify the physical presence standard that is already considered to be a fundamental tenet of our Constitution and has been affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court. H.R. 2887 reestablishes the principle that businesses must be physically present in a state before it is lawful to tax or regulate them. This is more than simple common sense: it’s a critical check on the power of overzealous state governments. Without such protections, individuals and businesses could face significant tax liabilities or be subject to costly regulatory burdens in locations far removed from their own elected - and therefore accountable - officials.”
