Bernie Sanders may have lost the battle for the Democratic presidential nomination, but he clearly won the war for the hearts and minds of the Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party platform, which is being called “the most progressive platform ever,” incorporates many of Sanders’ fiscal proposals from his primary campaign: free tuition at public colleges for households earning less than $125,000 a year; a $15-an-hour federal minimum wage; national paid family and medical leave of up to 12 weeks a year; increased infrastructure investment; more subsidies for housing; an expansion of Social Security, which is already running a cash-flow deficit; and a limit on child-care costs to 10% of family income.
